Travel aboard VIA Rail’s classic train, The Canadian, between Winnipeg and Jasper. Your tour includes 4 nights in the magnificent Canadian Rocky Mountains.

  • Visit 3 National Parks including Jasper, Banff & Yoho National Parks
  • Travel south down the Icefields Parkway for breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding lakes, rivers & valleys

Day 1 — Winnipeg / VIA Rail


Mid-morning departure aboard VIA Rail’s train, The Canadian, in Sleeper Plus Class accommodations. Take time to visit the Skyline Car or Park Car today and enjoy 360-degree viewing from the dome seating. As a Sleeper Plus Class passenger you can enjoy sumptuous meals served in the dining car, prepared by professional onboard chefs. Meet fellow travelers and share stories or spend time relaxing in your cozy private accommodations.

Lunch & dinner served in the dining car. Overnight VIA Rail.

Day 2 — VIA Rail / Jasper


Early morning has you stopping into the city of Edmonton for a brief visit. Then continue your journey west into the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Watch as the landscape changes from the flatlands of the prairies into the forested mountains of Canada’s renowned Jasper National Park. Late afternoon arrival into Jasper with transfer service to hotel included. Views of the wintry mountains surround your accommodations and provide the perfect backdrop to amazing photos of the pristine Canadian wilderness.

Breakfast & lunch served in the dining car. Overnight Jasper.

Day 3 — Jasper / Icefields Parkway / Banff


Early morning pickup for transfer to Banff. Your transfer will take you south down the Icefields Parkway. Grand views of the surrounding mountains, teal blue lakes and rivers, and a chance to see wildlife are the highlight of the morning. This afternoon take time to visit the local Banff area. There is time to visit the Sulphur Mountain Gondola, or Banff Hot Springs. Shopping and restaurants are bountiful in this winter wonderland.

Day 4 — Banff


Take part in the Discover Banff & its Wildlife tour this morning. Visit Banff’s landmarks and hear about the history and geology of the region. Your tour includes a visit to the Cave & Basin, now a World Heritage site. It’s a great opportunity to see the wildlife in its natural habitat, and includes short walks to point of interest in and around Banff. This afternoon take part in one of Banff’s most popular sightseeing tours, the Johnston Canyon Ice Walk. Visit Johnston Canyon and hike on a network of steel walkways built into the canyon walls. View the ice filled gorge and continue to the upper falls where towers of ice rise 30 metres high in the sky.

Day 5 — Banff / Jasper


Enjoy a morning at leisure for last minute shopping and dining. Then transfer to Jasper on the Icefields Parkway. Watch for wildlife today as you head north with spectacular views of the surrounding Canadian Rocky Mountains. Evening arrival into Jasper.

Day 6 — Jasper / VIA Rail


Mid-morning departure aboard VIA Rail’s train, The Canadian, in Sleeper Plus Class.  Enjoy the changing scenery as you head east and depart the mountains of Alberta and begin your descent into the open prairies. Visit the Skyline or Park car today for exceptional views of the surrounding landscapes. Savor the exquisitely prepared meals served in the dining car, and relish the conversation of friends, new and old.

Day 7 — VIA Rail / Winnipeg


Look out your Sleeper Plus Class accommodation window and see the panoramic views of the province of Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan covers 651,900 square kilometers, more than a quarter million square miles. Contrary to popular belief, fully one half the province is covered by forest, one-third is farmland and one-eighth is fresh water with nearly 100,000 lakes. Arrival into Winnipeg this evening with fond memories of your wintry Rockies adventure.
