9 Day Itinerary (Begins Saturdays)

Day 1 — Toronto / VIA Rail

Sat

Transfer from airport or downtown Toronto to VIA Rail’s Union Rail Station for departure aboard VIA Rail’s train, The Canadian, in Sleeper Plus Class this evening. Relax in the private waiting area and enjoy priority boarding. Choose from semi-private or private accommodations within VIA Rail’s Sleeper Plus Class accommodations OR large cabin in Prestige Class. Your cozy accommodations are prepared for your nights rest with your friendly car attendant just steps away.

Overnight VIA Rail.

Day 2 — VIA Rail

Sun

Wake up to picturesque views of the Southern Ontario region. Travel through towns and settlements, thick forests and over rugged Precambrian rock as you wind your way through the Canadian Shield. Follow along with our milepost information to receive a knowledgeable historical enhanced view of the places you are passing through. Bridges and viaducts abound, lakes and rivers are plentiful. Relax in your private room or visit the Park Car dome seating for a 360-degree view of the passing scenery.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner served in the dining car. Overnight VIA Rail.

Day 3 — VIA Rail

Mon

Early morning has you arriving into Western Canada’s oldest city, Winnipeg.  There may be time today to step off the train and visit the surrounding area.  Winnipeg’s VIA Rail station is known for having great shopping and delicious local foods available close by in the kiosks located right by the rail station.  Continue west and head into the rolling prairies.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner served in the dining car. Overnight VIA Rail.

Day 4 — VIA Rail / Jasper

Tue

Early morning has a brief stopover in Edmonton as you begin your journey into the Canadian Rockies.  The geography changes from flat lands back into forest and hills.  Begin your climb into the cozy nestled town of Jasper. Arrival into Jasper this afternoon and continuing with transfer service to your accommodation.  This afternoon and early evening have free time to relax and get a feel for this quaint town considered the gateway to Jasper National Park and the Canadian Rockies.

Breakfast and lunch served in the dining car aboard VIA Rail. Overnight Jasper.

Day 5 — Jasper / Banff

Wed

Early morning rise for transfer service to Banff. Your shuttle service will take you south down the Icefields Parkway and past some of the most breathtaking views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.  Arrival into Banff early afternoon with time to explore this vibrant bustling mountain village.

Overnight Banff.

Day 6 — Banff / Jasper

Thu

Morning sightseeing tour of Banff including a visit to the Cave & Basin, a National Historic Site.  Take pictures and learn about the history of Bow Valley whilst watching for wildlife.  Transfer north to Jasper this afternoon with early evening arrival.

Overnight Jasper.

Day 7 — Jasper / VIA Rail

Fri

Begin your day with a sightseeing tour to Maligne Canyon.  Travel with experienced guides and learn about the history and geology of this pristine mountain wilderness.  Late afternoon transfer from hotel to rail station to begin your overnight stay aboard VIA Rail’s train, The Canadian, in Sleeper Plus Class.  Enjoy comfortable accommodations, private or semi-private, and access to the Skyline & Park car.  Whether you’re relaxing in your private or semi-private accommodations or sitting in the dome area, enjoy the company of fellow travelers and share experiences while passing the through the winter scenery.

Overnight VIA Rail.

Please note that dinner is not included aboard VIA Rail upon departure from Jasper. Guests are requested to dine prior to boarding the train.

Day 8 — VIA Rail / Vancouver

Continue to enjoy the gorgeous views of the passing winter scenery, snow laden pine trees, ice covered lakes, and dramatic skylines as you make your way through beautiful British Columbia.  Vancouver is home to the mildest winters in Canada. Early evening arrival into Vancouver has you transferring to your hotel.

Breakfast & lunch aboard VIA Rail included. Overnight Vancouver.

Day 9 – Vancouver

Late morning check-out from hotel and transfer to airport for your return home with warm memories of your Cross Canada Classic Rail Journey.

Day 1 — Toronto / VIA Rail

Day 4 — VIA Rail / Jasper

Early morning rise for transfer service to Banff. Your shuttle service will take you south down the Icefields Parkway and past some of the most breathtaking views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.  Arrive into Lake Louise late morning.  Enjoy an afternoon of relaxation, or take a walk around the grounds and local area to see gorgeous views.

Day 6 — Lake Louise / Banff

Morning at leisure then depart on early afternoon transfer to Banff. This afternoon you can visit a number of different attractions located in and around Banff. You may wish to visit the Sulphur Mountain Gondola, with breathtaking viewpoints and overlooking the valley below. The Banff upper hot springs are an enjoyable place of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Day 7 — Banff / Jasper
