Day 1 — Prince Rupert BC
Begin with transfer service from airport to hotel and spend the afternoon enjoying the beautiful ocean scenery of Prince Rupert. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the British Columbia wilderness, Prince Rupert holds the distinction of having an estimated greater number of whales, bears, and eagles living there than people! Visit the Kwinitsa Railway museum or the North Pacific Cannery, preserved as a national historic site by Parks Canada. Overnight Prince Rupert.
Day 2 — Prince Rupert / VIA Rail / Prince George BC
Early morning departure aboard VIA Rail’s Prince Rupert to Jasper train seated in Touring Class. Your travel will take you through a variety of sights including coastal views of Ridley Island, Smith Island, and the first major tributary to join the Skeena River, the Khyan River. Continue inland past Emanon Falls, and then on to Terrace, one of the most scenic areas. The Skeena River is then joined by three key tributaries, and a network of sandbars and forested islands. During the Gold rush these areas were populated with prospectors, looking for their fortunes. One of the most breathtaking sights on the journey is the Seven Sisters Mountain range which cut a jagged image against the skyline. Arrival into Prince George this evening with transfer service to hotel. Overnight Prince George — breakfast, lunch & dinner included aboard VIA Rail.
Day 3 — Prince George BC / VIA Rail / Jasper AB
Transfer to the rail station for morning departure aboard VIA Rail’s Prince Rupert to Jasper train in Touring Class. Depart Prince George by crossing over the CNR bridge, one of the longest bridges in the world at half a mile. Continue your visual odyssey with passage through Giscome, over the Hansard Bridge, past the towns of Longworth, and Penny (pop. 20) as your journey brings you ever closer to the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Watch for grizzly bears, moose and beaver. Travel on through the Rock Zone over no less than 15 bridges and a 250-metre (819 ft) tunnel. Pass Mount Robson, standing 3,954-metres (12,872 ft) and viewable for the next 10 miles as you head into the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Arrival into Jasper early evening and transfer to hotel. Overnight Jasper — lunch & dinner included aboard VIA Rail.
Day 4 — Jasper AB
Your day begins with morning hotel pickup for an exploration of the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy stunning views of rushing waterfalls; visit Medicine Lake & the Athabasca Viewpoint. Continue on to Maligne Canyon this afternoon and take part in a Boat Cruise to Spirit Island, one of the most photographed islands in the Canadian Rockies. Watch for bears, eagles, elk, mountain goats and lynx as you enjoy the rest of your day at leisure. Overnight Jasper.
Day 5 — Jasper AB / VIA Rail / Edmonton AB
This morning we take you south down the Icefields Parkway for an awesome view of the Canadian Rockies on the new Glacier Skywalk. Enjoy fantastic views from this brand new lookout point. Enjoy a trip up onto a glacier in one of the Icefields special Glacier vehicles designed for travel over ice and snow. At the Icefields Centre, enjoy a hot buffet lunch early this afternoon before your return to Jasper. Early evening bellman assisted transfer back to VIA Rail’s station for boarding VIA Rail’s train Canadian in Economy Class. Enjoy comfortable seating. Snacks are available for purchase, or, check with your rail attendant; if it’s not too busy you may be able to go to the dining car for a sumptuous three course meal. Your tour ends today upon arrival into Edmonton late this evening. Buffet lunch at Icefields Parkway included today.
